18 year old and/or 1994 Whisky for 18th Birthday or Anniversary We have loads of 18 year old whiskies to choose from to mark the coming of age. Virtually all of the whiskys are labelled as 18 years old but there are a few 1994's, if you were looking for the year significance rather than the age.1994 - the year that Suntory bought Morrison Bowmore and Raymond Armstrong bought Bladnoch.The Channel Tunnel opened between England and France and John Major was Prime Minister.

21 year old and/or 1991 Whisky for 21st Birthday or Anniversary In 1991 the first official bottling of Benrinnes as a 15 year old in the Flora and Fauna range was released, along with Dailuaine 16 year old. Ben Nevis visitors centre was inaugurated and Inverleven distillery closed. The rest of the country was mourning the tragic loss of Freddie Mercury from 'Queen' and 'Silence of the Lambs' was blockbusting at the cinema.

25 year old and/or 1987 Whisky for 25th Birthday or Silver Wedding Anniversary Not much whisky trivia for 1987! United Distillers was formed when Arthur Bell and Son merged with DCL and Pernod Ricard acquired Irish Distillers. John Teeling purchased Ceimici Teo Distillery in Dundalk with a change of name to as we now know it - Cooley. Lots of tragic events in the UK, with the 'Kings Cross Fire' and the 'Hungerford disaster' filling the news.

30 year old and/or 1982 Whisky for 30th Birthday or Anniversary 1982 - Glen Garioch distillery became the first distillery to use gas from the North Sea for heating and a visitors centre was built at Edradour under ownership of Campbell Distilleries (Pernod Ricard). And for pub quiz trivia - Channel 4 was launched in the UK, the first CD player was sold in Japan....my, how technology has progressed in 30 years and 'The Mary Rose' was raised in the Solent.

40 year old and/or 1972 Whisky for 40th Birthday or Anniversary Bushmills joined Irish Distillers Group who were founded in 1966, Invergordon Distillers took over Deanston Distillery and a brand new distillery was built next to the old one at Glendullan. Richard Nixon, as U.S President was contending with the 'Watergate Scandal' and on home turf Edward Heath had problems with the 47 day miners strike. Julian Kaye would however class this as a true 'vintage' year???!!!!

50 year old and/or 1962 Whisky for 50th Birthday or Anniversary 50 years ago saw Aberlour distillery terminating their floor maltings and there was a trend around this time for distilleries to double their stills including Cardhu, Glenfarclas and Glen Elgin If you had been purchasing your first house back in 1962 it would have been in the region of £2950 and with a new Ford Cortina to run round in £590! The first recorded release of The Beatles 'Love Me Do' was playing and Marilyn Monroe died.
