Welcome to The Wright Wine & Whisky Company

Located in a historic part of Skipton, the "Gateway to the Yorkshire Dales", The Wright Wine & Whisky Company is an essential stop-off point for those making the pilgrimage north to the Scottish Whisky Trail, and situated approximately one hour from both the M1 and M6, it is an ideal break from travelling.

Here you will find the prices both attractive and realistic when compared with the tourist prices seen along The Whisky Trail.......and the selection even better!

Established in 1982 and based in The Old Smithy which was built around 1700, (the date stone in part of the office proclaims 1673), The Wright Wine & Whisky Company is truly an independent specialist worthy of a visit.

Whisky
There are always around 700 Scottish Malts available- sometimes well over 750 - many of which are rare and irreplaceable, as well as unknown Irish Malts, Bourbons and blends. Such a diverse selection is rarely seen; anything from fourteen different bottlings of Glenmorangie to Sherry Casked Lammerlaw New Zealand Malt at £44.95. Or, how about a Double Magnum of Springbank at £120?

Founder Bob Wright, assisted by Julian Kaye, have expanded the range to fill every nook and cranny of the old building. The recent acquisition of the adjacent premises now gives over 150 foot of shelf space in 2 rooms dedicated to Whisky. Some 15 different books on Whisky are available for sale along with nosing glasses, tumblers, hip-flasks and even a selection of Quaiches! There are also over 200 miniatures, mainly whiskies with other liqueurs and spirits available.

Wine
The other speciality of the house is, of course, wine. The 900 strong range encompasses wines from 17 different countries around the world, including wines of limited availability to those suitable for every-day drinking. There is something to suit even the most demanding palate. Staff are on hand to offer assistance and advice. Perhaps the best way to take in this ever expanding selection is to pay The Wright Wine Company a visit.

Bob often refers to his shop as "the coldest shop in the north of England". Rather than risk damaging the wine by adding heat to the building it was always policy to let the customer freeze! Until ten years ago that is............

In 1991 the opportunity was seized to acquire the vacant shop and offices next door. Equipped with central heating this could have caused quite a problem had the company not diversified into wine related sundry items and books. Now, after feeling the cold when selecting from a range of wines and liqueurs, customers can move next door into the warmth of either the Whisky rooms or the wine accessories, and browse through the large range of corkscrews, coasters, cradles, funnels and flasks, measures, thermometers and sensibly priced glassware. There are books for reference and purchase.

Opening Hours
The shop opens Monday to Friday between 9am and 6pm, Saturday between 10am and 5.30pm, although appointments can be made outside these hours, particularly at Christmas time, when corporate gifts need sorting out and you have just not got the time!

During December the shop also opens Sundays, between 10.30 and 4.30. You will be more than welcome in Skipton where Bob and his enthusiastic, qualified team provide a friendly and personal service.
